:? Alright I'm new to venus fly traps. This is my second one (my first died due to my cats getting a hold of it). I live in Kansas so the weather is relatively moderately and the winters are just right for dormancy I believe. I keep mine indoors in the window which is pretty well lit. I was trying to get it to go dormant but now I don't know if it's dead or not. I've included a picture and would love some input! Thanks in advance

Looks like a goner to me. The soil should never dry out. That’s what killed your plant. The soil should be moist at all times. The top of that moss should never be that light in color. That means it dried out. Sorry about your plant.

Well darn. I thought I was doing the right thing I was even using distilled water. It said to water them less during colder months when you're trying to get it to go dormant. Do you think it can be saved? I really got attached to this plant...

Pull it out of the soil and see if the rhizome(bulb) is still white and firm. If it’s brown and mushy it’s dead.

I thought about doing that but I'm paranoid that I'll kill it in the process lol. But I guess if it's already dead then it won't matter.

Yeah that's a goner.

The reason people reduce watering is because their plants are in very cold conditions which means the water does not evaporate quickly.
