I mean if you live near an area which would suit a VFT like a peat bog ?

I think those kinds of bogs are hard to find. I don't think any neighborhoods would be built near a bog.

I've seen wild ones, they're huge and beautiful. I think there are conservation efforts that are planting cultivated plants in the wild. I've never tried it since it's illegal for me to disturb public land like that even though I live close enough to the natural areas in NC. Plus, if I plant them near my house they will get eaten by squirrels.

You can get the squirrels away with a BB gun. I've used one at my house to get pests away, mostly those huge black crows.

A less gruesome (but also less fun) route would be to get a fake owl. They sell some at Lowes. They keep pretty much all small animals away.
