So as I am still new to all this I do know that you can cut and plant the flower stock so any advice when to cut and how to plant would be appreciated.

You should cut the flower stalk once it reaches about 1-2 inches. Any more can have a bad effect on the overall plant. You can just plant the flower stalk onto some wet sphagnum peat moss after you cut it and it'll grow into a clone.

Views vary professionals/amateur alike on cutting the stalks, make your own choice.
