This plant was started from seed a long time ago. I've been evaluating it for the last couple of years and it has really impressed me. I finally decided to give it a name!

I have been informally calling it "Short-toothed Red Giant" but that name is long and cumbersome. So I decided to name it based on its highly arched traps instead of its coloration and teeth

FTS Archangel is a red-leafed flytrap, though it has extremely varied coloration with lots of shades of yellows, greens and reds, with short to medium-length marginal spines (teeth). It grows upright in the spring and summer, but it's leaves rarely exceed 2 or 3 inches in length, making it a sturdy flytrap. It can produce traps that are quite large on the shorter than normal leaves, which creates an interesting look.

Matt I'm starting to think your trying to make me buy some VFTs posting all these wicked toothed varieties. My favs and the new ones are looking nice.

Yes, the wicked toothed varieties are some of my favorite as well. And this one definitely jumps out in a crowd with its coloration and highly arched traps. Both Leah and I find our eyes drawn to it often

Very nice. Now that's a variety I'm going to have to get my hands on.

Most new varieties seem to be variations on color. I really like that this one is unique in it's growing habit. Normal/large traps on shorter leaves with short teeth....pretty awesome.

It does look a bit like Dracula with the arching traps and nice coloration, with the main difference being that it's a red-leafed flytrap instead of green-leafed. And I think it gets larger traps than Dracula.

Thanks! This is one of the first times I came up with a name on my own spontaneously while talking with Leah about the plant. Leah is the more creative one and has named a few plants, such as Maroon Monster, Shogun Star, etc., but I seem to lack the creative gene for names

How big are the traps? approximately?

I think last year I remember traps over 1.5 inches. Since I let my largest one flower this year, the largest traps are just over an inch.
