In some cases we do give coupons to customers as well. I think the nomenclature "coupon code" is pretty standard for this sort of functionality on all ecommerce websites.

Well I guess gift certificates are essentially coupons with a different name. Like when you use a $2 off coupon, it is really a $2 "gift certificate" for a purchase that includes a company's merchandise.
