hello guys, recently i have been watering my VFT top down.
i just spray a few mist of distilled water directly above the plant.
should i avoid the plant and water the sides of the soil, or there's no difference?
i read somewhere that ppl usually avoid the plant, is that true?

Personally I don't think it matters either way. You will read people saying that if you water on top of the plant you make it more likely to get fungus and what not but I don't buy that. The exception of course is if you're growing inside under lights and the humidity is high, then I would avoid getting the plant itself too wet.

If you're growing outside you can water in whatever way you feel comfortable. During the summer I like to occasionally flood my pots so that the whole plant is underwater until it drains. After all, in the wild the rain doesn't make it a point to avoid the plant, it falls where it falls.

I will say this though, other than when I flood the pots, I do try and avoid pouring water directly on the traps so that I don't trigger them.
