Hi All!

My name is Chad, I live in the Philippines. I have always been interested in anything living, having kept almost all pet animals and even worked in a pet store for many years. On a very recent trip to Amsterdam, the flower market in particular, I saw my first Fly Traps in the flesh, was very surprised by the size, I actually thought they were much larger. I couldn't resist and bought a few "kits". These kits are a can with substrate and seeds which I planted just a few hours ago and watered with pond water. I know it will be quite some time before I see my new babies take flies but it will be worth the wait. Wish me luck! :)

Welcome to FlytrapCare Chad!

I wish you good luck with the kit. Unfortunately often times those kits have very poor germination rates. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones that gets good germination though. If not, you can always buy fresh seeds and try again :)

Thanks for the info Matt! Unfortunately I bought the kits before I discovered this wonderful forum. Hopefully I get at least a few to germinate to get my feet wet in this hobby.

Welcome to FTC Chad! Here's a little advice - don't use pond water, river water, or tap water for your babies unless you have checked it with a TDS meter first to make sure that it has 50 mg/L (PPM) or less of total disolved solids. The disolved minerals in pond, river, and tap water can kill VFT's pretty quickly. Distilled water, reverse osmosis water, and rain water are good to use for them. Good luck with germination.
