I am a retired electronic engineer and have just started trying to grow Venus Flytraps. I will have lots of questions.

Welcome to the forum and do not hesitate to ask. This is a very friendly and helpful group of people. If you haven't already, check out the plant guide at it will tell you just about everything you need. Anything else, ask away!

Let me summarize briefly the keys to growing flytraps successfully.
1. Soil - pure sphagnum moss or 50/50 peat perlite. Make sure there are no fertilizers and do not use Miracle-Gro. Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Flytraps do not like their roots sitting in water .
2 Water - distilled, RO or rain water is best. You can use your tap water if it is measured and has less than 50ppm dissolved solids (tds). You can also check into getting a Zero Water Pitcher.
3. Light - this is probably the toughest one for most people. Flytraps need 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight or equivalent. Light through a window doesn't count as direct as the window reflects some of the energy. Many people do grow the with grow lights but that is beyond my knowledge.
