Hey guys, came home from work today and my new traps are looking pretty bad.

I'm watering them with distilled water and keeping them in the shade outside.

I'm not really sure what's going on. My only thought is to leave them in standing water while I'm away because they were pretty dry when I got home despite soaking them really good this morning.

If I'm seeing this correctly, you put it in a terracotta clay pot. That's one of the reasons why it gets dry so fast. Water evaporates out of the pores in the clay. Your plant would be better off in a plastic or glazed (inside and out) ceramic pot.

Plus, terra cotta can leach minerals into the media, slowly killing your plant.
I would suggest a repot onto a plastic pot and fresh media.

Thanks for the help guys. I've replanted them in glazed pots. One looks pretty bad so hopefully it will recover.

Give it some good care and some time. Venus flytraps can be surprisingly resilient if given half a chance.
