The best advice is to phone a local nursery and ask if they carry PURE peat moss. For now, you could take your plants out, rinse with distilled water. Wrap in sopping wet paper towel (use distilled water still) and store in the fridge in plastic sealed container with some distilled water at the bottom of the container. This should put your plants in suspended animation while you find better potting mix.

Once you get the right mix, pot them then. I'm thinking that the above storage method (which in used to ship VFTs) should keep your plants ok for about a week.

Hope this helps.

Well don't say it's from the devil... Could be, for carnivorous plants. But it's great for the other plants!

I don't even think its great for other plants. It's just like steroids. It makes the plants look good real quick, but its bad for the plant in the long run.

Yes, Miracle Gro is plant steroids.
Sure, it makes the plant nice and big, but they put so many toxinsin the fertelizer.

I bought some cactus soil and read the ingredients. Peat moss (yay) perlite (yay) compost (nooo!!!) humus (?) and planted my cacti in there. But I I said no to compost because if it was just peat and perlite, that would be great for CPs... And peat moss feels good. I like burying my hands into the soil. Yes, I'm weird. But I found something fun to do. I smushed the perlite. It feels like foam. For so long, I thought they were solid rocks. Oh, and maybe burying my hands into the soil I had wasn't actually a good thing to do because I started to squish the lumps and I was basically squishing compost. Eww... Something looked a bit like poop there...

A question about perlite. Would it be better to have lots of small pieces of perlite in the soil or better to have a few large chunks?

In my opinion and experience, small pieces, its mainly to aerate the soil. Large chunks wouldn't do much. But depends what you mean by large. I would use medium to small for my plants.

Just don't breathe perlite dust; very harmful.
