Hi Everyone, I'm new to growing cps and thought I'd share my grow list. they've recently been repotted (almost 2 weeks ago), so i've been losing some traps. They're grown under full spectrum Led lights around 16000 lumens. The sarrs container is about 7000 lumens. If it is sunny in the morning they sit in an East facing balcony until 12:00. After that I move them to a west facing balcony and supplement them with leds after 6:00pm. I will be leaving them for dormancy on the balcony with some leds, as temps drop below 11C there.I know indoor grows are frowned upon here, so if you guys think my lights are not enough or have any other tips please let me know. Oh and I will be getting an 8000 lumen led for the ceph and heliamphora.

Nice selection! I think indoor growing is only frowned upon if you do it for no reason when you can just put them outside. For some like us outside is not an option so we do the best we can for our plants. Im interested to see how your dormancy goes so keep us updated :D

Thanks man! Yeah i have 0 outdoor space since i live in an apartment complex. I think the balcony should do fine as they get a lot of direct sunlight that is not filtered through glass or anything. In the winter temps will drop down to 7, so I will just hang the led fixtures above them there. I’ll keep you updated about dormancy, i think they’ll be dormant in a month max. The days are really short and night temps are dropping down to 13C. What about your set up, what type of lights are you using? How will you handle dormancy for them indoors?

Sounds good just be sure not to give them to much extended time under the leds or you might knock them out of dormancy. I'm old school I use 200w cfl 6500k and finally just ordered another one today so I can get more plants under so 400w 24000 lumens total I'm yet to try leds but I have been thinking about metal halide lights next. I will shorten the photoperiod each month until they are down to about 7-8 hours a day then bring them back up in spring. Unfortunately my plants get zero sunlight. I used to take them out now and then but they are so used to artificial light they just burn so I just keep them in one place.

That’s a pretty bright set up hahaha. I wanted to try metal halide bulbs but then I saw how much is a kilowatt in Europe  so i just went with red/blue/white leds in the end. I will be timing my lights to the sunrise and sunset during dormancy, that will make sure I won’t mess it up.I would have definitely used the metal halide if i could those things emit 36000 lumens for 400 watts and can cover a pretty impressive grow area. Does decreasing photoperiod always work for you? I’ve noticed the days have gone significantly shorter since july. It’s been getting dark here at 8:00 pm instead of 10:00. So i’m not sure if my plants look the way they are because they are dormant or repotting/shipping stress.

Lol yeah you would think they would be super bright but because of the daylight spectrum they arent all that bright in comparison to led,hps or mh. I was thinking metal halide as i will get more lumens for the same wattage and they do 6500k or close bulbs. Hps are to red in spectrum same with cdm bulbs. Only issue with mh is the heat they get extremely hot and as i grow in a closet i will need a powerful extraction fan. Ive seen a cheapish one £50 That will exchange 200m sq of air per hour. Its my first time putting my plants through artificial dormancy but I have spent months researching and it will work it is similar to inducing flowering in other species. Getting a low enough temp for me might be an issue though.

I used to grow some non-carnivorous plants using mh and 600 watts hps in a 80x80x160 area. Pretty small area for that wattage. I found that a cooltube reflector with some ducting hose and an 15-20 watt extraction fan works great. I even tried a portable ac unit but that didn't work out it was scorching hot and cold at the same time. The best way is to quickly extract the heat directly from the bulb out of the tent. I would look into cooltube reflectors they're great.

Nice! Good thinking it makes sense to take the heat directly from the bulb as it's the source of the heat. It will be sometime before I upgrade to mh but seems like the best choice for vft. Ive had experience with hps of different watts too they are definitely to red for non flowering/vegetative growth. I'm hoping to get a small greenhouse soon and keep the closet for vft propagation and some new species drosera and pings but I really enjoy indoor growing. :D
