I've used BAP before and I wasn't terribly excited about the results, though it did produce a lot of division. More recently I've been doing all of my VFT cultures without any hormones and they seem to be doing great.

I would definitely recommend this route. For VFTs they seem to be optional and if you're just starting, they can cause more harm than good.

One thing I learned and is planning to continue is to only use kinetin for multiplication and no rooting hormone. The disadvantage of rooting hormone [for me] is that the plants are harder to divide and to replate because of the roots. I've noticed that if you leave your plants in a flask for a long time, the hormones and vitamins will dissipate and the plants' root system will action on this by sending out roots to look for additional nutrients that it was used to.

Very cool observation Jun. Now that you say it, it makes sense and I think I've noticed that before. But I never really put 2 and 2 together.

matt. i have different multiplication medias for VFT
one is with 2mg/L NAA and 0,1mg/L BAP and the other with 5mg/L Kineting

In what situations do you the two? Is one for starting explants and the other for multiplication? If so, which is which?
