VFT's like to be fed either way..

I tend to water from below 90% of the time, and then water from above To rinse out anything that might be trying to build up in the soil..

I too use Rain water.. being in England its the one thing we are not short on here..
we just need the sunshine and the ability to buy Peat Moss now and we will be perfect.

I was looking to buy a pitcher plant, but I couldn't find any, so I bought another VFT, the last one in the store. It's quite a mess but has perked up since giving it some sun and decent water. All the traps were full of compost (I imagine that some customers set the traps off). I'll post some pictures when it perks up some more :)

That makes 3. :o Running out of space now lol.

Hi cougar i collect my water by placing a small plastic bin outside to collect the rain water and then transfer it to 2ltr water bottles as like you i live in the UK it is not long until you collect a fair amount of water, i do not think living near a power station should worry you much concerning the water as the vft's medium is acidic. :)
