Hi, great website, loads of great info! So much so that this is the first time I've needed to ask a question.
I sowed some seeds 10 days ago and today I've noticed that all the seeds have turned from shiny black to a red/brown colour. I'm hoping this means that they've softened up and are ready to "pop" but when I look at photos of other seeds sprouting they're all still black. Are they okay?

Where did you source the seeds from? Also what type of lighting and how far away from the seeds is it?

There are many posts on these forums on where not to buy seeds from.

China is one of them

Yes true, they've turned a weird colour, but when I got them I was 100% sure they were fly trap seeds they looked exactly like pictures I googled. They were 1mm in size and completely black and almost shiny.

Unless my eyes playing tricks on me and I can’t really tell in the picture your seeds are round.
VFT seeds have more of a pear shape appearance

Yea they were like tiny teardrops. Really, they looked exactly like pictures online. I just don't know how fresh they were.
How long should I give them before I dump them? :P

I don't think those are Venus fly Trap seeds. I am not sure what they are. VFT seeds are black and not round.

Could it be by some crazy chain of events China took seeds that looked like vft seeds and spray painted them black and the color is slowly fading?!?

We will never know
