I have started an experiment using Soil Moist granules that i got really cheap at a local nursery. I made 3 different mixes the first is my standard flytrap mix of 50/50 peat/sand (8oz) with 2 tsp of soil moist added. The second mix is just a coarse pool filter sand (8oz) with 2 tsp of soil moist. The third is the sand/soil moist mix topped with an inch of 50/50 peat/sand mix. I am starting all of them with flytrap seed I got from this years harvest from Flytrapranch.com. I will prolly do an experiment with baby or small size flytraps when i have more time/room in the spring. I have tested the soil moist and it seems to be able to absorb about 8oz of water per tsp and also expands like crazy not sure what this will do but to keep it from constantly expanding and contracting they are staying in trays of water about 1" deep.
