Hi,

I was wondering if old mixed carnivorous plant soil (sphagnum peat moss, sand, perlite) ever expires. I recently found some leftover mix I made a few years ago. I know that carnivorous plants prefer nutrient-poor soil, so I was wondering if old mixed soil expires. Also I have been using sphagnum peat moss I bought last year. It's in a giant bag and will take forever to actually use up for my purposes--does peat moss expire, especially for carnivorous plant use?

It depends on storage conditions, generally. The wetter the soil stays, and the higher temperatures its exposed to, the more quickly it'll degrade. I mix up soil in 5 gallon buckets that I leave open so it'll dry out over time rather than staying wet, so I don't need to worry about it.
