I'm assuming yes because those carnivorous plant kits you can get at hobby lobby come with those peat pellet things you are talking about. It's probly not the best or most successful way, but it should work given correct conditions.

You can use some peat pellets, but not all. Last time I looked at the Jiffy brand pellets the do contain a low ammonium fertilizer.
I don't know if it is too much for a VFT, but maybe rinse some distilled or rain water through it a few times to wash most, if not all, of it out and it might be OK.
Maybe try it with a few typical seeds and let us know.
