Has anyone ever safely added any type of algaecide to water trays?

This is strictly speaking from my experience in maintaining a swimming pool, but most chemicals used to controlling algae (chlorine, copper based algaecide) is also harmful to CPs. Algae isn't harmful; just ugly.

What I was thinking about was Physan which I've used in spray bottles with orchid fertilizer to prevent algae from growing. Then there is Seachem Flourish Excel which is added to planted freshwater aquariums to prevent algae growth. Sure algae is a cosmetic thing and I'm not brave enough to experiment but way wondering if any other person had experimented and had success.
