How does the top layer of sand look? Its quickrete construction sand... I washed it by first screening it several times to get dust out. Then I sprayed with regular hose water for about 15 minutes. Third I washed it in soap and regular water for about 10 minutes. Then I rinsed until soap was gone regular water. Filled by soaking ng in peroxcide rainwater mix for 30 min. Last a thorough rinse with rainwater.

There is the sand or rocks or whatever lol... I used it in my mix and my plants are still OK.

Take a scoop of rocks and place them in vinegar. If they bubble, then they are unsuitable. I'm no expert, but that does not look like silica and may still leech minerals into your media.

Thanks I'll try that. Would it have affected my plants since they have been in it for a month already? I top and bottom water... whatever my mind picks when they need a drink.

And the yellow leaves are over two months old, so that should be their time to die just from being old? I'm just trying not to overthink this lol.

Ok no bubbles from sand in the vinegar so I put a rock from my yard in and bubbles a lot. But no bubbles from sand

I wouldn't put my plants anywhere near sand that isn't white/light yellow and translucent (pure silica). My two cents worth.
