What's wrong with my Akai Ryu?#290532

For some reason all of my VFT's are thriving except for this one. I kept it inside with my other traps in a south facing window. However, the traps would never quite form right, and it was looking very green. I thought I would move it outside to get more sunlight. That did help the red color, but the traps still turn black as they are forming. I gradually introduced it to real sunlight. I put it in a spot that only receives morning sun (~3 hours) and slowly moved it into a spot that receives about 5-6 hours sun.

I bought it from FTS back in January while it was still in dormancy. Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

When it was inside I was watering it from the bottom about once a week.

It has been outside for 3 weeks and it has been raining a couple times a week.

Assumimg you're using the proper water (the LFSM looks great), it may be a little sunburnt but fine. Check out this thread http://www.flytrapcare.com/phpBB3/red-d ... 34799.html

Red Dragon can be fussy at times.

If it's getting enough light and water which is appears to be just keep it outside and it will snap out of it. My red dragon looks like complete garbage right now, it has 8-10 leaves and 0 traps have opened also have 2 juvenile red dragons that are doing the same thing.
All my other plants in the same conditions are thriving so I really do think it's just the cultivar coming out of dormancy.

Most of our Akai Ryus look similar. After breaking dormancy, Akai Ryu goes through a phase like this every year. Lots of newly forming traps turn black or are deformed.

Just wanted to chime in as well (: my red dragon is being strange as well.
Weird fat leaves with strange traps that I believe will not open and are dying off but new growth emerging and snipping the flower stalk shows me it's fine but fussy.
