Not sure what you mean by "sewing." I've seen trays made with plastic canvas tarp in a wooden frame.

I imagine you could try sewing the plastic together using waterproof, thick thread (like carpet thread), and then use a strong aquarium sealant over the top of the thread to seal any holes caused by the sewing. Not sure how well it would do long-term, though.
