Yeah to be honest, I'd be kinda skeptical to cut this plant too, the steam seems really thin already...maybe you could wait until the plant grows a bit more and air layer it then.

That's why I was thinking on the node itself. That'll make the cleanest plant too.

Haha. Sorry, but it's true. Would much rather have a clean plant you know?

You think it would rot out I'm a tall pot with holes and LFS? I'd think it would be OK and it solves your problem of looking awkward.

The stem is over 5 inches. Maybe about 6. That would be a VERY deep pot. There are two ways to do things: the right way and the way with compromises.

IMO the right thing is to leave it alone, at least for now. Your hamata is not much different and I don't see you wanting to chop away at that. ;) if it's really bothering you, wait until it gets a basal or has more new growth.

Nah. The Hamata is much better. Looks clean with a stalk that's way smaller.

Update: after talking to Ryan from Native Exotics, he confirmed that the original cutting location I indicated would have the best success rate. Here are some quick pics I snapped when I was performing the procedure (haha) - expect a full thread later:
