Last year i had a poly greenhouse, but this year i have a 6' x 4' giant cloche,
much better for all the plants to get optimum light especially the dreadful Summer here in England this year.

The VFTs i planted in an oblong (6inch depth) deep compost mixing trough, made my own multiple drainage holes and put it in a tray that was just the right size for it,
and finished it off with a light surface layer of silica sand, to attempt to create a VFT bog.
Next year the pitchers im going to try growing outside in a long trough in front of the cloche.

I recently came across a 9inch depth trough with the same dimensions as the 6inch one, which i shall use next year.

This years photo album in full below:-

Gorgeous plants. That's one of the biggest (lasiantha?) pygmy colonies I've ever seen.

Which purp subspecies is 5a?

My word that is amazing. I've been considering something such as this for our garden (we have a large space I've been offered) but haven't been able to decide between greenhouse or cloche. Thank you so much for the photos and inspiration!

I chose the cloche this year as it is really breezy in Winter in that spot (greenhouse was blown bigtime), but the main factor
was the fact i didnt feel the troughs on lower levels of the staging were getting the optimum light.

I feel the setup as i have it now (pitchers im trying outside next year) uses the full area and all the plants get equal light.

The cloche i have is a Gardman giant multi cloche, and this year generally i've only needed to open the side vents, but (as seen in pic) both sides have massive zipped panels,
with an interior netted partition as well.

Far less watering overall i have found needed in comparison to a greenhouse too, also the humidity stays much higher.
