People do, but I have doubts as per the legality. Remember that it is illegal to send any seeds into the United States without an import permit from the person recieving the seeds. So if you were planning on shipping them to the States it would not be legal by any means.

Any seeds found being shipped into the US will be siezed and destroyed.

Nope, the law is old, a permit has always been required for seed imports into the US.

As per your question, it would be best if you contacted your governments agricultural authority before importing.

If you want gemmae why not just import from BCP or CZ plants? No legalities since its via the EU.

That's not true, some species are (or were, whatever) allowed.

Dantt99, do you have a source?

Pre permit, APHIS required a phytosanitary certificate to be sent with any seeds.

A small lots of seed import permit is required from APHIS for the importing party:

http://theseedsite.co.uk/aphis.html

As far as I can tell this applies to all species that are not on a list of prohibited species:

http://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export ... seed.shtml

Importing seeds without one is illegal, just because you have imported seeds before and have not been caught does not make something legal. CITES permits are also required if the plants are listed Appendix 1.

Remember that when you label the declaration form on a package as something other than what it really is (for example putting "craft materials" on a package full of seeds) there are harsher penalties than just importing the plants without a permit. This constitutes fraud and fines can be applied to the importing party.
