I have some pictures from the small terrarium that I have been using for a year or so. My boyfriend is currently preparing to build my permanent grow chamber in our basement! It is always nice and cool down there so it will be much easier to maintain the temperatures that I need. CAN'T WAIT. And... it can't come soon enough! I am out of room.

Cephalotus
My largest cephalotus. The color looks a little "off" due to the poor lighting that I used when taking the pics tonight. :) It is looking a little scraggly as I have trimmed off a bunch of aged pitchers to make room for the new. They were starting to become malformed from being wedged between existing pitchers. Does this plant need re-potting?

Tendrils from two SG burbs, resting happily on live sphagnum! Can't wait to see these beauties when they're mature. Sorry for the poor image quality--I took the photo through glass.

N. hamata
BE-3495
This plant produced two lovely pitchers that were much larger than the rest but now the newest leaf looks odd. Any ideas what my plant is doing and why it is potentially upset with me?

AW N. nigra, Gunung Katopasa
This plant is part of my first AW order. It just arrived 05/14/14. I am afraid of losing it as I have read that AW plants are fairly soft upon arrival. Any advice is always welcomed.

You have some serious talent when it comes to growing Cephalotus and Heliamphora (probably everything else as well, but I don't grow much other than Dionaea and those two species). Super impressive looking plants. I'm so jelly of those Cephs and of your monster Heli!

If your AW B. Black is pushing new growth it will be fine. If It's drying up a bit or loosing pitchers faster than it's replacing them you will need to increase humidity as it's not acclimated fully yet an just leaving it be is risky business. Setback is expected however as I have gotten a lot o heli's from wistuba and they all have quite a bit of setback even bagged off for about a month or so. Most of the existing growth will dry up quickly as new growth appears.

Your hamata looks good but I think it's getting a bit to much light the leaves should stay completely green I use a bit of screen to diffuse light on mine if necessary.

Good growing awesome plants Your ceph's look great nice and big !!

I bagged the heli :-) Thank you for the kind words.

I am worried about the Hamata as it was producing larger leaves and pitchers and now it has produced a small leaf and a stump. I am stumped! :-( It doesn't look like it's on death's door yet so I am still hopeful...

All of the pitchers that it currently has were produced in my care.

I'm still quite suspect of the lighting. How long have you had it?
Hamata will almost grow in intermediate conditions with cooler daytime temps.
Have you experienced a rise in temps during the day due to the seasons changing?

I noticed your ceph's pitchers are very very dark. That's great but it also tells me the lighting is to strong for the hamata. Along with the fact that the leaves are sunburnt.

Also what media are you using? Did it come potted?

If all else is equal I would just diffuse the light directly above the plant significantly (40%) and see what your next leaf looks like. If all is good and the leaf is all green you have solved your dilemma.

I had this same issue with my Veitchii K striped and my robcantleyi awhile ago.
To much light and it literally almost stopped growing and went kinda nuts with leaf size and pitchers. As soon as the light levels were corrected everything went back to normal and proper growth resumed

Btw what's your temp/humidity levels?

I have had the plant since 01/14/14. The seller re-potted it for me just before shipping into fresh LFS/perlite. I layered the top with live sphagnum.

I was thinking that the lighting was too intense for it but then dismissed the idea when the plant produced successively larger pitchers for me. Obviously the plant isn't adapting to the light levels seeing as even the newest leaves are red...

I really don't want to lose it. I think this weekend I will be re designing my grow chamber.

Aw man! I typed up another message and posted it but apparently my cellular service at work wasn't good enough because it didn't show up. I guess here's the short version:

Daytime temps highest I have seen is 83*F but I work 2nd shift so there is definitely a chance that the temps have gone higher and I haven't seen it.

Nighttime temps not as low as I would like. High 50's to low 60's.

Humidity always 60%++ with that being the low end. 99% at night (likely 100% as my hygrometer only goes to 99). Humidity fluctuates during the day because my fogger comes on and off many times throughout the day.

I forgot to mention I did replace one T5 bulb recently when an older one went out.

Ok
Your temp and humidity is fine IMO my temps don't get any higher than yours 80/85* and my nightime is only 65*
All my heli's and HL nepentes have tolerated it just fine for the last couple years.

Everything seems well within parameters to me so with that being said I believe its lighting especially with the new bulb T-5 bulbs get pretty weak before they completely go out
