I've never had any live sphagnum sprout from the dry stuff honestly.

As for how I care for the live stuff-- I mist the tops as soon as they start to show any signs of being too dry. I grow live sphag in both drained and untrained containers. In the containers without drainage holes I just make sure there's always about an inch of water in there. I never have any trouble with the tops turning black in those containers.

The moss that I use for top dressing on my Nepenthes pots definitely get brown/black tips. When this happened I just mist them immediately and flush the pots with distilled water. I've always used distilled water only so I don't actually know how many PPM live sphag can tolerate.

Thank you:)

Everything currently looks kind of bad. I don't know what exactly happened. Maybe it's because I got lazy and stopped putting ice packs in my tank at night.

I sold most of my Nepenthes to pay for an eBay mishap and also because they were starting to decline. It seemed like the right time. Many of them had gotten so big they didn't even fit in my terrarium anymore.

As for now, everything I have left is recovering. I divided the huge heli minor and all of the divisions are looking sad but are starting to grow so that's good. :)

All of my cephalotus are growing quickly again. They suddenly started to die!! It's weird. I put them all downstairs in my basement where it's very cold. I had given up on them really. Figured that for whatever reason I just didn't have the knack for growing them anymore. They grew non carnivorous leaves and after a couple of months I moved them back upstairs. It's like they've been reset. Now they are suddenly happy! Woohoo!!

Lovely plants! Sorry to hear about your problems, but it looks to me like everything is doing very well once more. :)

That BCP flytrap clone especially looks great! I for one can't wait to see how big it gets, those teeth and that trap shape are really something else.

I am 99.99% the windowsill is for picture purposes only. Pretty sure that heli was grown in a terrarium.

SEWinans, could you tell us how you grow your sphag tho? Do you still use the repti fogger? Stunning plants as always. I had a reptifogger that suffered a scary incident so if I buy a new humidifier I won't be buying a zoo med one for sure

Yes, the windowsill was for imaging purposes only :)

I don't have the reptifogger upstairs anymore. My heli minor is complaining about it but the new growth looks good.

I just mist the Heliamphora and sphagnum when it looks a little dry. I keep some water in the bottom of the tank. My Heliamphora have always enjoyed sitting in a little water anyways. The sphagnum enjoys it, too.

By the way, what on earth do I do with this? I've never had this happen before.

Should I cut it?
