Hello everyone,

My sixth grade science class has been very involved in CPs in our classroom for the last three months.

Thanks to the generosity of Forum members and growers around the country we have a fairly nice collection now.

We have 10 different varieties of Drosera's, 4 different types of VFT's, 3 different varieties of Nephenthes, 2 varieties of Texas native Sarracenia Alta. We also have a donated Pinguicula on its way!

We also had a humidifier and four foot grow light with T-% bulbs donated to us.

We have acquired a portable RO unit and we are making our own foggers for humidity level increase for some of our plants.

We are getting ready to move some of our plants outside to give them more light.

This after school club has grown by leaps and bounds in just a few months and now has a waiting list for membership.

My room only holds 26 kids.

As soon as I figure out how to upload photos, I will post some.

Please feel free to share advice and your expertise with us.

Teacher and students are learning together.

Special shout out to the Forum seed bank for their seed donations and leaf cuttings.

Our leaf cuttings are rooting in test tubes and we hope our new seeds will sprout soon.

This Forum is the best!!!!

Thanks again in Advance,

Theharvester

It's great too see the little update. Please keep us informed on how things are going, and feel free to ask any questions you or the class may have.

I'm a tapatalk user so I really can't help with the photo issue, sorry. But hopefully someone will chime in on it, so we can see some eye candy

Sounds like you're doing great things with those kids. 8-)

Anyhow to post a pic:
"Post a Reply" button (not "Quick reply") then
"Upload Attachment" button then
"Choose File" button (navigate to your pic and "Open" it) then
"Add the File" button

I can't say enough about the good things you are doing for those kids!

Once you get your existing plants growing according to schedule, let us know if you have a wish list that Forum members can help you out with. I, like many members often have surplus plants or equipment laying around.

I believe in supporting projects like the one you are involved in.

Good growing,
Mike

this is great, doing all the same things at home with our kid who is now 7, its how we got started in with all these carnivorous plants in the first place. wish she had you coming up in a couple years for a teacher!! you'd have one star student!

I used to breed Ball Pythons in the classroom and hatch out a few dozen in an incubator and kids would get permission to adopt them as pets after learning about their care.
CPs have been a much better investment of my time with the kids as we can discuss so much more about cell differences between plants and animals, Turgor pressure, adaptation, types of reproduction and just how cool bug eating plants are.....

This is a great forum!

And I suspect that you'll find more parents willing to adopt a stray CP than a stray python!

Any plans for expanding your program to the district-, county- or state-level?

His CP Science Club ought to be documented and shared to other CP Forums and FaceBook CP Groups.

There is nothing but negative news about our school systems today.
Reading about Craige's success with this makes me want to jump up and start applauding, loudly.

Good growing,
Mike
