Hi all, my friend just bought me some carnivorous plant compost from a garden centre, but it says that it has added vermiculite to it (as well as perlite, but mostly sphagnum moss peat), but I've read in books and websites to avoid vermiculite because of the mineral content..so what do I do, err on the side of caution and take it back? The makers are Lorbex Specialist Composts.
My plants are VFT's, cape sundews, and a sarracenia.

I bought this also from dobbies..
Seems to be fine but you may want to add more perlite as it doesn't have much and the soil is kinda compact.

I wouldn't keep buying this as its expensive at £1.99 for 2 litres.
But, it'll be fine, the mineral content in vermiculite isn't that much and i didn't actually see any vermiculite in it. Must be a very small amount.

Just buy this: http://www.organiccatalogue.com/catalog ... 79f521b5e1

And a bag of perlite from bnq for about £4.99

Will last you ages!!

Ron.

Thanks for your reply, Ron. I think I will keep it as a reserve compost in case my usual runs out (I usually mix some sphagnum moss peat with perlite and sand in a 70:15:15 ratio). And I really appreciate the link to that environmentally harvested peat, as the non-green credentials of normal sphagnum moss peat has been a real concern to me. Cheers! :D
