It's still a bit early to be sure (seedlings can change color as they get a bit larger), but it appears that Steve's red mix is going to produce a lot of little red plants. I got about 100 seeds from Steve back on the 23rd of June. They've nearly all germinated now and it appears that about two-thirds of them (I just "eyeballed" it -- didn't actually do a count) are going to be red.

Yesterday I replated them and sorted them by color. Here are some shots:

After looking at the photos again, it may be more like 55%-60% that are red. There may still be some reddish plants in the green jar too. I'll have to wait until they get a bit bigger to know for sure. In any case, it definitely looks like I'm going to have a lot more red plants in my collection!

Does anyone else that got the red seeds have an update?

That's a lot of plants! Mine germinated 2 weeks ago and there are still some seeds that I'm waiting for before I replate. Will update as soon as I start my replating.

I probably should have waited another week or so to replate, but I actually sealed back up the original germination containers and I'm hoping that any that haven't germinated yet will germinate in there.

Now that I think about it, I might replate any remaining seeds that haven't germinated yet today or tomorrow. I made a bunch of media and I need to use it up anyway.

I look forward to seeing your update Jun.

All of those seeds in a sterile environment in tissue culture vessels. They're all sitting on top of MS media unless I accidentally pushed them too far down into the media.

Looking good Matt!

Mine aren't as far along yet, took me a couple weeks to get them all into culture. How often do you re-plate seedlings?

I have regular and red mix already germinating, ~90% of regular mix is green, ~60% of red mix is green, rest are red- darker and paler. Seedgrown VFT's sounds very interesting, i will write when my seedlings grow bigger ;)

I just sowed my "red mix" yesterday and I am looking forward to seeing the results when the seeds germinate - it would be interesting the grow the "green" seedlings from the "red mix" to maturity and then try crossing them again and see what the results are.

I was thinking the same thing Linton. I might make an effort to keep tabs on the little green guys from the red mix.

An update. Check out how much they've grown over the last week:

And it appears that at least three more of the plants that I put into the "green" jar are going to be red. The percentage of red seedlings from Steve's red mix is pretty amazing!
