I went to a festival in my town today and they had a stand with abunch of carnivorous plants. I picked up a Venus fly trap, the stand was run by flytrapfarm.net, all the plants looked taken care of. The plant I got has lots of small traps and some new undeveloped ones coming in. I was wondering if I needed to transfer it in the near future to a larger pot? I so know it needs to be planted in peat moss or sphagnum and to only use distilled water on it.

Yeah you shoudlnt do that. While this flytrap is still acclimating to new surrounding plus you repot it , it will cause stress to them. So just let them grow.

The pot looks plenty deep for now and flytraps only have a few stringy roots since they feed from their traps so they do not tend to get root bound like other plants.

The soil looks like pure peat though so do not over do it on watering especially if you keep it inside. Just keep it damp.

I would repot it if it were mine. Flytraps like deeper pots and deeper pots help keep them moist while making it harder to over-water them. A smaller pot may also stand in the way of it growing larger. Pure sphagnum peat isn't the best media for them either. That being said, it's possible for it to grow happily in its current home for a while, it will likely just require more close attention.

P.S. If you're in the northern hemisphere where winter is approaching, I would actually probably enjoy it for now and wait until around January/February when it is dormant to repot it.

It's really up to you, because the plant seems to be growing fairly well in the small pot, but I'm with xr280xr, I would repot it if it were my plant.

I'd get a larger pot and use a better soil mix that is more to my liking in terms of care technique. Though, also as xr280xr said, you could wait just a few months and repot in late winter instead and that would be fine too.
