Hi! I'm new here and I have a little bit of a problem. My mom surprised me with a pitcher plant, and I don't know what to do with it. I've done some research but I'm still not sure. On its cup it said it was a Sarracenia sp. I'm not sure what that means. It looks pretty healthy, though one pitcher has a little bit of brown. Don't give hate, as I didn't know I'd be getting it. Right now I have it one my window seal and sitting in water. Thank you

The water should be ether rain, distilled or RO. Tap water will kill your beautiful plant

Should I fill their pitchers with water or will they create it?

Welcome to the Forum!

Sarracenia purpurea pitches can be filled 25 - 50 % with distilled water.
Other species of Sarracenia have hoods that stop rain, purpurea does not.

Big 4
Lots of Direct Sunshine.
Pure water, distilled or rain water.
Acidic, nutrient-free growing medium like Peatmoss or long fiber Sphagnum Moss.
Respect its dormancy requirements.

Good growing,
Mike
