I always keep my VFT's inside a cage to protect them from any marauding squirrels. This particular one doesn't seem too happy with the accommodations though...

your picture gave me an idea. now that my collection is starting to outgrow my existing squirrel cage (which is made of a cheap but effective wire fence), i can use an old metal dog crate, or a smaller cage i bought to capture the occasional rabbit that would fall into and get stuck in the pit next to the basement window before i had that gap sealed.... thanks!

What is that type of venus fly trap that is gnawing on the metal bar? It might want to eat a squirrel

Hey, whatever works! That cage was originally a rolling box for storing file folders. I removed the wheels and turned it upside down. It only covers 12 styrofoam cups containing smaller plants.

I had to build a much larger cage from scratch to hold most of my collection. (It's so tall because I hated scraping my head against the top edge every time I had to lean inside to water the plants.) Keeps all the action right up at eye level!

I still love that whole outdoor space there, we are building a huge deck onto my office building out back hopefully this fall, to start a nice space outback for keeping plants! I'm planning a large cage specifically for VFT and building it in I think is the plan. although it may just have a space to put it built in

Yeah, they're just plain ol' leftover typicals. No great loss if they get devoured. I haven't seen very many squirrels yet this summer. Hopefully they all DIED!
