I have 2-10/20 trays inside under a 6500k shop light that I use for propigation. Mostly flower stalks, leaf pulls and some VFT seeds. I decided to pull apart a Rocket Farms typical that was grown from a flower stalk last fall around October that I found at a grocery store. This flower stalk took a long time, 3 months or so to take root and begin showing growth, so it sat kind of forgotten about for the past 7-8 months.

I pulled it out of its plug and found it had just been dividing like crazy, there's well over 20 tiny divisions, I eventually just got tired of separating all the divisions.

I have decided I will experiment with some Maxsea fertilizer on these divisions. I have placed the divisions in plug trays and will apply a dilution of 1 tsp per gallon of Maxsea to one tray every week and keep the other with a plastic bag over the bottom to avoid wicking up fertilizer water.

I already use this dilution of Maxsea on my plants but at a rate of once every two weeks and without a control I honestly cannot say if it's beneficial or not. They don't seem to mind and I haven't noticed any odd growth.

Let me know if anyone has suggestions on this experiment, I will try and update once a month.

Great way to set this up! Are you intending on continuing the fertilization of the control group at the rate of every two weeks? My only suggestion would be to add a third group. Group 1) no fertilizer, group 2) every two weeks, group 3) every week. That way you could see the results all the way around the board. Other than that this looks good.

This is a good idea and the way it probably should be done but unfortunately I can't spare the real estate inside for another plug tray. I want to keep 6-8 plants per group and since all my seed is finally ripe I am about to run out of room under my grow lights.

Well that's a good question, I have grown about 20 other cultivar flower stalks this season and they have all produced a single plant or maybe 2 divisions but they also grow larger much faster than this typical. My guess is it is just a trait of this typical and probably why it was selected for mass production by Rocket Farms. I have a few of these growing outside and they don't get real big but they do divide like crazy, they will fill a pot very quickly.

do you use the Maxsea with stalks and leaf pulls? I have a bunch of those rocket venus fly traps and yea they divide like crazy. I thought maybe the maxsea solution you gave them maybe helped the divisions?

I completely understand that, real estate for growing is hard to come by sometimes without spending a bunch of money on increasing the size of your area. Even then it's not always feasible.

I am looking forward to seeing your results. Best of luck with this one!
