I went to the Pitcher Plant Trail today to see if the flowers were out and about yet. The S. alata are putting up the first pitchers and flower stalks all over and a few were blooming. In a few weeks the forest will be filled with the blooms. The P. pumila all had flowers in bloom. And the ever present D. capillaris was everywhere as usual.

That is in The Big Thicket National Preserve. In Warren Texas. It's about 20-25 minutes from my house.

It is pretty much sand and silt. And yes it's dense but it also just crumbles if you touch/move it. It looks dry and sometimes is on top but that area stays very wet. There is an elevated boardwalk because the whole area is low lying and stays wet. Most of the pictures I took standing on the boardwalk. Here are a few more shots from this weekend. It had been raining off and on for a couple days so it was really wet. You can see the capillaris stretching their arms since they stay underwater some times. I've got lots more pics and videos but I can't upload here because the file size on the pics is too big and videos don't work.

To add to the last post. The capillaris do grow all over in the woods and along the trail where it's pretty dry and no boardwalk. But they are most concentrated in the wet areas. The P. pumila grow in a small stretch a little dryer than the lower area. And the D. brevifolia seem to like the drier areas too.

Awesome! Thank you. It's hard to tell in pics sometimes. From the rainy shots it doesn't appear to be very well draining either. But that could just be from the raised water level after a rain too. Thanks again for sharing. I personally love seeing these plants in habitat.
