I've been doing some reading on pings and I've seen a rather odd phrase appear in many of the sources. For instance (this from CZplants' discussion of Mexican butterworts): "European countries, mites can also be a problem." I'm not surprised (I'm not happy, but not surprised) that mites can be a problem but I'd really like to know why "European countries" are being singled out. I can guess as well as the next guy but I'd really like to know what the true story is. Does anybody have the actual facts? Thanks.

This is all I've been able to find. It was apparently written by somebody in France, so it should cover "European mites". Unfortunately, it doesn't distinguish the "European mites" from any others, it's just a general description and suggestions for eradication...

I agree. But that takes me back to my original question: Why single out Europe for ping/(spider)mite problems?
