Burnt rice husks may sound strange but they're awesome.
What is it?
Burnt rice husks are rice husks that have been taken off and then burnt. It is porous so water gets through fast.
What can I use it for?
I personally currently use burnt rice husks for nepenthes and succulents, and it works great. BUT, I know legit hobbyists that use this and some vermiculite/perlite/coir for drosera, sarracenia, and even vft. I have yet to officialy try it on those but it's very promising. I tried it on a sundew once and it worked (well until it died of fungal rot :( )
I think this is a very useful media when mixed with others.

The farmers harvest the rice, make a huge pile of rice husks, and then burn it.

Oh. I'm not sure. But I heard they have it in US. They're also called burnt rice hulls. But I suggest you rinse them first just to make sure.
