Also, in the environment, they always have their roots exposed to moisture, so don't let them dry out unless they are dormant. If they are, you can lighten the watering.

I personally like the tray method but actually use the "water around the plant when it's dry" method. You can also try putting the pot in a bigger pot and putting water in the big pot.
