I was contacted by a landowner in the area that is developing a small island (10x10)in the middle of a pond on their farm. Since the habitat is going to be lost they asked me to collect the flytraps and sundews there and transplant them into Rehder carnivorous garden restoration project here in Wilmington. (that is legal to do with the proper license)
Check out this rhizome!

Is that how long the roots really were or did then get cut while being dug up?

The roots all seem very short. The soil was pretty packed and I wonder if that was a reason. I will take photos this weekend when I return and I think you will find it a very strange location.

So here are some more photos of the tiny island that I rescued some 300+ traps from. About 100 were of flowering age, the rest are new this season or last. The ducks really did a number on the traps the 4 days it took me to get back and get the rest. Too bad, but I saved a good bunch of stock. It is all in the greenhouse right now and recovering from the shock of transplant( I hope).
