Hi All,

Recently a couple flower heads have started to pop up from my Venus Fly Traps. I've read its best to cut them unless you want to produce seeds and that the flower head offers a good opertunity to try and clone. The guide i read said just cut it off at 1-3 inches and stick it in peat. I would have thought it best to use some kind of cloning gel or powder. If this isn't the case, why not? If it is the case, are there any brands / types you can recommend?

Also any tips regarding this are very welcome as this will be my first attempt.

Thanks again

You can probably use a cloning gel, and some types may increase success rate and/or speed up the process, but I've never bothered as the success rate without is so high.

I would recommend not bothering with it; the flower stalk does all the work and doesn't really need help.

Flower stalk propagation technique is explained (from a process perspective) in this thread:

and in this FTC article:

(scroll down to the "Flower Stalks" subsection)
