Ok, so my first successful explant was a Cupped Trap leaf. Here's a photo of what I started with back in March:

Here's the original thread I started when I though it was making callus:

Well, I'm absolutely stunned what I was able to turn that one leaf into over the last 6 months. Check it out:

That's only about half of the jars I have and I've also sent some to friends (including jkochuni). I also deflasked quite a few back in September. Some of them I've sent to friends or FlytrapCare Store customers. Yesterday I deflasked a bunch more. It was a very long day of potting:

Wow, looking good! Have you put any on BAP, or did they all divide on plain MS?

I hope that you do!

Yeah, pretty crazy huh?

Yes, I put some of the tissue on BAP and some on plain media. If you keep the amount of sucrose high in the media, they'll divide almost as well on hormone free media and you don't get really crazy growth.

Matt, if you ever get a camera for timelapse stuff, you do realize that you have to do a timelapse of TC growth. :)

I'm utterly amazed at what you've done. It's awe-inspiring to realize that all of those plants were born of a single leaf. From one leaf, you've created a genetic lineage that will eventually wind up spread across the entire country, and inevitably, around the world, and it's a lineage that will outlive that mother plant, and you and I as well. A hundred years from now, some kid in Indiana or Nepal or Australia will have a clone of that leaf sitting in his windowsill.

Just something to think about...

Awesome Matt! I thought they needed to be hardened off after TC... is that all you do after they are deflasked, or do you cover them or something?

Not quite. They need to harden off and grow a bit before they'll be ready to send to people.

Yes, I cover them with a dome. I just had the dome off for the photos.

Good evening Matt,

It is good to see that your tissue culture work is progressing well. I am proud to see the wonderful work you have completed in the last year. I see also that you have made your move to Oregon. Welcome to the west coast. I will keep in touch with you in the next few days. Give my best to your lady.

Best regards,
Curtis
