These are the first VFT seedlings I have germinated (in fact these are the first carnivorous plant seeds I have tried germinating), and these came from FTS. At the moment 14 of the 20 seeds have germinated, and the rest seem to be starting. They were sown 8/14/2014 and the first ones germinated around 3-4 weeks after. I hope to pull one of the seedlings later today to observe them under the microscope and get some photos from that as well. I just took some photos of some of the seedlings at various points of growth.

I apologize for the variation in the colors of the photos, my point-and-shoot seems to be having issues with the white balance settings.

Thank you! I know what you mean, I was checking mine daily for the first week . Best of luck with the germination of your seeds!

At least they get plenty of fresh air :D.

I pulled the seedling that was in the first and second photo of the first post to look at under the microscope. I was surprised at how well it had anchored itself into the moss in a relatively short amount of time. The photo of the root still has some remnants of the moss that I carefully picked off.

The total magnification for both of the photos is 40X.

Thank you! I hope so too, but even if they don't do well I can always try again.

I agree, it is definitely an exciting experience germinating these seeds and even other non-carnivorous plants that I started from seed. Thanks!

Many of the seedlings have had their first traps open up :). Sometime soon I am going to transplant them into a more permanent container to grow out in before their root systems become too extensive. It will be interesting to see what these look like as they get bigger. It's kind of tempting to get some more seeds to germinate after these are transplanted.

This one is the same plant as IMG_5563 in the first post.

This one is just a random seedling that has progressed well.

I am starting to see variation between the seedlings now which is pretty neat. Some seem to have relatively vigorous growth, some have more color showing, and there are a few other noticeable differences. I decided to transplant four of the larger seedlings to their own pot of 100% long fiber sphagnum moss to grow out. This was done last weekend and they have all taken well, though it was a bit of a pain to transplant into the moss given their size. Anyway, I took a couple of pictures of the larger seedlings with the first being the largest.

There is some color, other than green, beginning to show along the petiole on this one.

Some of the cilia on the leaf of this plant appear to be wider than all of the other seedlings. The petiole is also a bit wider than the others.

There is not really much to update with this. The seedlings do seem to have a source of food that I am not able to see easily, but food nonetheless. Also, about a week ago I planted 95 more VFT seeds (supposed to be 60, but I'm not complaining :) ) from another source, but this time they were sown in 100% LFSM in a container that can support their growth for at least the first year. This way I don't have to worry about transplanting anything right away even though it will likely be a pain when that time comes. Still seems to be well worth the extra effort.

This is the same seedling as this first photo in the previous post.

And this is the same plant as the second photo in the previous post, just a different angle.
