Personally, I would say the genus name is more the "funny" aspect -- "Amorphophallus" = misshapened penis. (Who says botanists don't have a sense of humor? :D ) Another amusing plant name, IMO, is that of one of the Tillandsia species I grow. The name has always struck me as one inspired by the disco era ... T. funckiana.
