Your Largest Trap of 2019

Even though I don’t have any flytrap cultivars, some of my flytraps put out good sized traps. Two of my seedgrowns routinely put out traps that top 1” long.

I missed measuring the very biggest traps this year, but they both still have an abundance of traps over 1.25” (32 mm) this year — and I let them flower and set seeds!

Right now, my biggest trap is 36 mm (1.42”). What’s your biggest for the season?

My Scarlatine flytraps are putting out some real whoppers this year. That's the biggest one so far. Inch and a quarter or so, I'd say.

My DCXL'S, B52s and deep red guerilla are my biggest trap producers.

Last year at this time all 3 were putting up 1.5"+ traps.

This year all they have been able to muster is 1" traps.

This year has been very cold, wet and dreary climate. Without warmth and the pots not being able to dry out they struggle to make big traps or be fast growing.

Even my neps aren't producing pitchers yet, last year at this time they were pitchering so fast I lost track how many there were.

Here's mine. Not the biggest, but certainly not puny by any standards. LolImage

Same problem here. Too much cold, cloudiness, and rain, rain, rain. Traps are small and slow to close.

I let these flower so they may not be as big as they could have been. I don't seem to get big traps... I get a lot of divisions.
But as a few have said, the hot, even dryer weather, makes the fly traps grow like crazy.
Mine are much taller than last year. And with all the rain we had last year, I felt like the fly traps were drowning.
My DCXL is over 1.25 inches and so is the WIP Long Snapper. Alot of my traps are 1 inch and I am pretty happy with that.
Those 1 and a half ish fly traps are amazing. They even look huge in the pictures.

Tell me about it. Out of the next 14 days for me 7 of them have no rain. And out of those 7: 4 are sunny. And on Tuesday night it is supposed to be 57 degrees!
