I’m wondering if it’s possible to recover this Venus flytrap before dormancy or if it will survive dormancy. During the summer it was outside but it was watered with tap water. However after move in for college it’s in a bright window(3rd floor, northwestish facing) and switched to di water for about a month and a half now.

in that rough of shape I might skip dormancy all together and treat it like its growing season to recover more then resume dormancy next year

also it looks like the rhizome of your plant is not buried/exposed it should be buried just slightly below surface

Ya i would skip the dormancy and just do it next year. Also clip off those decaying dead leaves so they wont compost into the soil and I would suggest getting a bulb to place above it in the window so it can help supplement the light because you wont get enough light in a northwestern facing window. Like he said bury that rhizome a little more it does look like its exposed above ground just a little bit. If you do all that your plant should perk up within a few weeks.

That white area should be under the compost.

Thanks for the replies y’all! I’ve moved it deeper today and find a light to use over the weekend. Are there ways to keep it from going dormant? I’m concerned it’ll go dormant when mid December comes around.

If it's warm (indoors) and has a light running it will not go dormant. Like others have said you could probably skip it this year, but you do need extra light in your current conditions. It's declining due to poor lighting. I used to buy daylight CFL bulbs from the hardware store (something 1450 lumens or higher) but there are some affordable LED options as well. MarsHydro is a good brand used by many growers and I noticed they have some $20 bulb options.

I would just cut the whole top off like if you took a trimmer to a bush and sawed it straight across. I don't think there is one salvageable stem on that rhizome so that's why I recommend cutting it off and burying the whole rhizome deeper so any white colored part of the rhizome is submerged. That's about as rough of shape as your going to see so any improvement is good. If you have more questions feel free to ask that's what we are here for.

Your plant looks fine to me. If it goes dormant let it, how fat is the rhizome? Honestly last year i had a plant in That shape and during dormancy I kept it in A cold sunny window. It sprouted green while asleep and burst into growth in the spring. in the end its your choice but your plant looks fine. I didnt say pretty, fine.

Thanks for the advice from everyone. The plant was bought as a single plant from Walmart however there seems to be 2 or 3 growth points now so hopefully that is good.
