You'll need to contact the Malaysian Department of Agriculture (or whatever the equivalent agency is in Malaysia) and talk to someone there that can give you the information about how to go about getting an import permit.

Once you have the import permit, you send it to the people that will be sending you the plants. The phytosanitary certificate is obtained by the people sending the plants and is issued by the local government agency, which in my case is the Oregon Department of Agriculture.

Once both the import permit and Phytosanitary certificate have been obtained, the plant is usually mailed to an inspection station, though this may not be the case for Malaysia, and then forwarded on to you. You'll just need to contact the Malaysian government agency that handles all of the agricultural business and they'll tell you everything that you need to do. Then you inform Steve and I how to properly ship them to you. However, we're not selling plants internationally yet. But, we may start selling them internationally as soon as next year and obtaining an import permit can take some time, so it certainly wouldn't hurt to look into now.

Nope, we don't ship internationally yet. Perla and the guy from Kuwait had their orders shipped to somewhere in the US and then had that US person forward the plants to them.

No, right now we don't ship internationally. But, as I mentioned before, if you're serious about importing some plants from us, you should go ahead and contact your government agency to find out what's required. The process of getting an import permit in the US is somewhat complicated and can require up to a few months to obtain it. I don't know what the import laws are for Malaysia, but I could find out from my contact at the Oregon Department of Agriculture when we're ready to start shipping internationally.

At the minimum, you'll definitely need for us to get a Phytosanitary certificate for the plants, which is $20. I'd guess that shipping would be at least another $20. That's over $40 in expenses before even adding the cost of plants. My guess is that most international orders are going to be larger group orders to help divide up the cost of the Phyto Cert and shipping among many people.

International shipping isn't cheap, but $20 may be a bit of an over estimation. Shipping may only be $10 to $15. But suppose you order $200 worth of plants and then divide them up among 5 or more people. Assuming shipping is $20 and the Phyto Cert is $20, that's only $4 per person for shipping and for the Phyto. The more people to split the cost with, the more reasonable the cost becomes.

For a business doing as well as Matt and Steve's I think that sending all these plant international with certificates seems a little too much hassle for the money they get paid. Say this was a b52, and I bought it. Somebody would have easily claimed it in the US leaving Matt and Steve half the hassle!

Plants should be found easily in India too, surely on an online store! If India has an eBay there will be stuff going cheap on there too.
