What to do with "ugly" rhizome with dead growth still connected to plant? Repotting new plant.

Hey all,

Saw a healthy looking VFT on sale at Lowes today for $5, but when I took it out of the weird coconut fiber thing it was potted in, I saw it had a HUGE "dead" looking rhizome (it was like black) where it looked like there used to be growth.

I plucked that part of the rhizome off, but noticed that on the other side of the VFT there was a part that still looked white, but had dead "leaves" still connected to it. Not sure what to do with that part of the plant. I'll include images below.

The weird, white but also dead part:

You can leave it, it has a chance of growing new traps or prop on its own..

Sounds good, I'll leave it alone then.

It's weird, it had this entire, plant sized black rhizome with some dead leaves also attached to the other side of the VFT. I should have taken a picture, but it was black and had a very very very tiny white spot in the inside.

I just peeled it off because it looked dead to me.
