All flytraps are the same species. There are a number of different cultivars registered with the ICPS. But if your plant didn’t come with a label naming what cultivar it is then it should be labeled as “typical”. That is the name given to any flytrap that is not a cultivar. It’s not a guessing game. If you don’t know 100% it is a certain cultivar you should not label it as one.

I don't know what species he is, but he's sweet looking. Where did you acquire him?

If there was no label you can't call it by any cultivar name. It's just a "typical" VFT.
There is no way of being 100% certain of what it is (I.e. what makes you think it's royal red as opposed to holland red or Akai ryu?). Anyways... it doesn't look like any of those either, I'm juts giving an example of the issues with just trying to name it some cultivar name.

I agree with Cross, that's a really nice looking specimen. I'm curious where you got her as well.

Why are you convinced that it is a cultivar? There are quite a few named cultivars that look very similar to your plant. There is also a potentially endless number of seed-grown typical flytraps that could have a similar, if not practically exact, look.

So unless it was tagged as a certain cultivar by the supplier (and a reputable one at that), then it is a typical. A very nice one, but still just a typical.

Erik, stop trying to figure it out. You can’t. You never will. Any cultivar you try to call it will be wrong. It didn’t come with a label so it can ONLY be called a typical. Look up and read what everyone is trying to tell you. IF IT DIDN’T COME WITH A LABEL IT IS A TYPICAL.

this species is called Dionea Muscipula and is the typical variety that shows traits of reddening around the traps

it is not an akai ryu, it is not an FTS flaming lips, it is not ANY named cultivar. it is a "typical" that has nice traits.

pleas re-read what others have said above.
