This is an easy one for me - 'Fused Tooth'. Every trap is different. You never really know what the next one will look like. It's a plant with which you can never get bored....

While 'Wacky' is different, it's a sickly little plant that struggles to survive (& mine didn't).

That's not been my experience with it so far. I got mine from Robert Ziemer in early fall last year. It was teeny tiny. It actually grew a lot over the winter and put up a very large flower stalk this year that I just put into TC. It's put out lots of new traps and is growing just as vigorously as my other flytraps so far. The only drawback is that it can't capture it's own food, so that will definitely set it back a bit. But I've heard that you can "force feed" them. I might try that if I notice that mine slows down in growth. For now, I'm very impressed with how quickly it's growing even though I let it fully grow a flower stalk.

The 'red piranha' is definitely growing on me. Mine has a green stripe along the outer edges of the trap, but the tips of the teeth are red, so when it closes I can definitely appreciate the name.

I love German Dentate. Lots of fine, teeth and there are about 80 on each trap (40 on each lobe).

I agree. 'Red Piranha' is one of my favorite cultivars.
I really like its characteristics and coloration.

Another clone I like is "Dracula".

But ever since Matt posted pics of an unnamed FTS clone (in propagation for
sale at FTS, can't wait!) that looks almost like
"Dracula", but IMO even has better characterisitcs and coloration,
it has become one of my top favorites also.

So many beautiful VFTs, so difficult to decide on just one.

Wow! That's a unique VFT.

I tried to Google that name and it shows up with 'Sawtooth'. Your "German Dentate" has more teeth than a 'Sawtooth'?

I couldn't find any photos of a "German Dentate".
Can you post a photo of it? I'm really curious on what that VFT looks like.

I too really like this plant. On top of its amazing coloration and dente-like teeth, it has very, very large traps; possibly the largest of any of my plants this year. I've still not got it started in TC though, so the wait for it may be a little longer. I'm going to try a couple more times before growing season is up and if I don't succeed this year, I'll definitely make it a priority next year. I just had too many clones I was trying to initialize this spring and I gave priority to already named clones.

It's the same as Sawtooth. Fine tooth is also the same as Sawtooth.

Like you said earlier. Why would they name the plant Fine tooth x red when they could make a name so people won't get it confused with its parent.

jamez, fine tooth may look like a sawtooth but they havea differnt genetic code whichj is why its claseed as a differnty cultivar.

Incorrect. Fine tooth is the exact same as Sawtooth. But Fine tooth x Red is a different plant. Fine tooth is in its parentage.

I'm no VFT expert, but from what I read,
"Fine Tooth x Red" followed the proper
naming protocols regarding
cross pollination of two VFT clones.

Standard naming VFT rules were used. So, VFT experts
would consider that acceptable. Example: "Clone x Clone"
No confusion there. A precise description of a cross pollination between
2 clones.

Just like a clone, an expert VFT grower in
California sent me, which cross pollinated 2 clones and named it
['B52' x "Slack's Giant"]. He followed the proper VFT naming rules,
and not have the audacity to call it "Big B52", "B52 XL" or something
like that. And if it does exhibit better traits, in the future, at
least he's giving it a different name and not including 'B52' in it.

Unlike "Big Jaws". It's not even a clone of 'Jaws' or even a seed from 'Jaws'. Why
add an adjective implying it larger than a 'Jaws'?

They couldn't think of any other name in the dictionary or something,
instead of using the registered cultivar name 'Jaws', to name an entirely
different clone?
