I got a free flytrap from the pet store! It's looking really rough but the rhizome is good so I think it's salvageable.

Also trying my first flower stalk cutting, from the same plant.

We're entering outdoor growing season in Milwaukee.
I moved out a couple more flats of Dews.
The rest of them will come outside one or two pots at a time.

I also had a dozen test tubes full of germinated seeds from my continuing Water Germination project.
I mixed up some media and topped it off with 1/8 inch of pool filter sand as topdressing in each pot.
That White pool filter sand really makes the sprouted seeds stand out, very easily visible.

Species that germinated and got planted included:

Drosera burmannii "Green Giant"
Drosera burmannii "Humpty Doo"
Drosera capensis "Giant" "R Seine Zimbabwe"
Drosera capensis "Giant" "Steve Marley"
Drosera capensis "Gifberg Pass RSA"
Drosera capensis "Rubra"
Drosera capensis "Vogelgat Nature Preserve RSA"
Drosera finlaysoniana
Drosera hartmeyerorum
Drosera indica and Drosera burmannii "Binh Chau Forest" Vietnam
Drosera serpens
Drosera spatulata var gympiensis

I divided a Cephalotus and found 12 baby plantlets!

Also bagged up some helis.

I didn't do anything yet! Although my flytrap flower stalk cutting babies are almost ready to be fed for their first time!

My fresh Drosophyllum seeds are germinating after only a week or three.
I scarified them on the rounded end, then soaked them in water for 24 hours.
I planted them in a well drained 1:3 peat:perlite mix. (with 1/4 inch top dressing of peat)

My Drosera finlaysoniana seeds are potted up today.
They germinated in a water-filled test tube.
Germination time was 2 - 3 weeks.

I see a few other tasks that desperately need to be done, that's the problem with getting old, fat, and lazy.
Scorpioides Gemmae need to be harvested and given away and quite a few Sarracenia are way overdue for repotting.

Mike, did you use sandpaper for the Drosophyllum scarification? Or? Thanks!

I used an exact knife to scrape a tiny layer of seed coat at a time until I saw the White/Grey seed material inside.
They're a lot bigger than the average CP seed but still tiny so handle with care.

Chef Dean gave me some D. filiformis var. "floridana" White Flowered leaf cuttings a month or three ago.
Test tubes full of distilled water yielded a metric sheet-ton of new plantlets.
I potted them up in a peat/perlite mix and domed it after root budlets appeared. (about 1 month after plantlet-buds appeared.)
I also potted up some Drosera x 'Hercules' plantlets.
This mother plant was gifted from Carson Trexler the originator of this Cultivar.

Thank you to all the generous growers out there, working so hard to improve the state of the hobby!

Thanks,
Mike T.
