Hello, everyone!

I have a question: What can I grow outside in my climate? Where I am, I have mild winters (lows at 30º F/-1º C) with light frost and very hot and dry (emphasis on DRY) summers, with temperatures occasionally up to 110º F/43º C. I already have my Sarracenias outside, and they seem to be doing fine. However, even in spring, Drosera and Pinguicula (namely D. filiformis, D. binata binata, and P. primuliflora) did not take well to the already-rather-warm conditions. For those of you wondering, I lost my D. filiformis, but managed to save the other two. So, what can I grow outside?

here is a really great link on how to grow drosera and it seems that you could grow most subtropical sundews as long as you don't let them freeze or get too cold. the more sun it gets the better since when it gets more sun it is able to produce thicker dew, which as you might imagine is harder to dry out. I supose northamerican sundews might be better depending on where you live. I was rather surprised tat your binata was hurt by the heat since they are tropical plants, (at least the var. multifida "extrema" s are) here's the link http://www.growsundews.com/ contains bunch of other helpful information. nepenthes would not be for you since they prefer humid climates and like between 75-85+°F (25-30°C) and night temperatures of low 60s°F (18°C) . terracota pots are also good for summer since they can let water evaporate, which cools it down since water takes energy when turning from liquid to gas. Venus flytraps would work quite well for you since when acclimeted (i forgot how to spell) they can take high sun exposure, but don't burn them. you seem to have a nice tempertatures for dormancy. my suggestion is to buy a spray bottle and lightly mist it so it won't dry out. don't consider building a terrarium unless you have great tempertaure control, as heat can ger trapped quickly. good luck!

Thank you very much for your advice! I have a D. Capensis flowering on my windowsill, and I heard that those are practically indestructible. I'll see how it does outside.
